US County Jail Directory is an independent, privately maintained informational directory that collects jail and inmate lookup information for every county in the United States — in one organized, searchable place.

We built this site for a simple reason: finding basic jail information online is harder than it should be. When a family member is booked into a county facility, people often have to hunt through fragmented county websites, outdated phone listings, and third-party services that charge money for public records. We link directly to the official, free county systems — and never charge for lookups.

What We Do

For every county, we compile a structured guide that typically includes:

  • The county jail’s official inmate search portal link
  • Facility address and verified phone numbers
  • Visitation rules, hours, and ID requirements
  • Bail, bond, and release process information
  • Commissary, phone account, and mail policies
  • Court clerk contacts and victim notification resources

Each page is compiled from the county sheriff’s office or county government’s official website, and carries a “Last verified” date so visitors know how current the information is.

Our Verification Process
